Gen Z dialogue in Rizhao promotes global youth exchange

The 2026 International "Generation Z" Rizhao Dialogue and Exchange Event took place in Rizhao, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, from May 26 to 29.
The event brought together over 150 young representatives from more than 10 countries, including the United States, Germany, Russia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Madagascar, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, as well as local university students and media.
Robert Parua, an education program officer from UNESCO's Cairo Office, addressed attendees via video, emphasizing the vital role of youth as innovators and organizers in reaching sustainable development goals.
Wang Lei, vice-dean of the School of Economics at Ocean University of China, shared his insights on the significant achievements in the high-quality development of China's marine economy.
Yoosadiang Thamonwan, a participant from Thailand, reflected on Rizhao's model of integrated urban and industrial development as a blueprint for Thailand's coastal cities. She was particularly impressed by the silent operation of the automated container terminal at Rizhao Port, underscoring the need for digital transformation for maritime nations.
Wang Yaping, a Chinese attendee, shared stories about Rizhao's efforts in marine ecological restoration.
During the roundtable session, participants discussed plans for marine economic, scientific, and technological development, advocating for building a maritime community with a shared future.

Throughout the event, attendees explored attractions like the Sunshine Coast Greenway, Rizhao Olympic Water Sports Town, and Rizhao Port, discovering Rizhao's ecological beauty and dynamic growth.
The event was organized by the Information Office of Rizhao Municipal People's Government, Foreign Affairs Office of Rizhao Municipal People’s Government, and China Daily's 21st Century newspaper.
