Weifang, celebrated as the world's kite capital, is gearing up to host the 43rd Weifang International Kite Festival and the 2026 Weifang Kite Carnival this spring. A municipal press conference on March 17 announced that the grand opening will be held on April 18 at the World Kite Park.

Kicking off the festivities is the 22nd World Kite Championship, running from April 16 to 19, followed by a large-scale kite-flying event on April 18 and 19 at the World Kite Park. Beyond competing, the festival will serve as a platform for global dialogue, featuring cultural exchange programs focused on bringing Chinese and international youth together to foster peace and mutual understanding.

From April 20 to May 5, the public "Open Flying Season" invites participants worldwide to enjoy the city's renowned spring breezes. The celebration continues into October with the National Creative Kite-Making Competition and the World Indoor Kite Championship, maintaining kite culture's presence through the year.

This year's lineup goes far beyond the sky. Highlights include the 2026 Weifang Kite Music Festival, star-studded concerts, and international culinary competitions. For those interested in active participation, the city will host dragon boat races, cycling tours, martial arts festivals, along with traditional calligraphy and painting exhibitions.

Kite culture also acts as a platform for international cooperation and regional development. The 2026 itinerary includes visits from diplomatic envoys and mayors of international sister cities, along with key project matchmaking conferences. The 19th Weifang Kite Trade Fair and the Kite Food Festival will display premium local products to domestic and international markets, reinforcing Weifang's role as a hub for cultural, trade, and tourism exchange.
