East China's Shandong province is participating in the 30th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart), which is taking place from March 17 to 20. This will be its 11th consecutive appearance at Asia's largest entertainment exchange event.

Shandong offers both a rich cultural heritage and advanced production infrastructure. The province's film and television industry has gained momentum through strong policy support in recent years.

One policy example is the provincial authorities' offer of up to 10 million yuan ($1.45 million) in subsidies for key projects, with additional funding from municipal and district governments totaling 45 million yuan combined. This support has nurtured successful productions, including the TV drama Nirvana in Fire (2015) and the film series The Wandering Earth franchise.

During this year's Filmart, the Shandong delegation is bringing major companies, including China Movie Metropolis in Qingdao and Laoling World Studios in Dezhou. On March 18, the province hosted two dedicated promotional events to highlight these major production bases, seeking cooperation opportunities in film financing, content creation, and global distribution.

China Movie Metropolis is a key part of the Shandong–Hong Kong cooperation. Hosting more than 1,000 professional film and TV companies, it has seen the production of over 70 films and 50 TV dramas, generating more than 41 billion yuan at the global box office. Meanwhile, Laoling World Studios has attracted productions such as Detective Chinatown 1900 through its comprehensive facilities and cost advantages.
