Print PrintJinan Metro Lines 4, 8, and the eastern section of Line 6 began operating on Dec 27, marking the start of a new stage in the city's transit network and enhancing mobility, urban development, and the daily lives of residents.
Jinan Metro Line 4 runs east–west along the city's main thoroughfare, Jingshi Road, stretching around 40 kilometers with 33 stations. As the longest line serving the most densely populated areas, it connects key areas including the old downtown, the Central Business District, and Tangye New district.
Jinan Metro Line 8 spans 25.3 km with 14 stations, linking Licheng and Zhangqiu districts with the Jinan Innovation Zone and supporting coordinated growth between the central and eastern areas.
The eastern section of Jinan Metro Line 6, which covers 19.5 km with 17 stations, serves strategic areas such as the Jinan area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, accommodating heavy passenger flows along the route.
The three lines operate six-car Type A trains designed for high-capacity urban transit. Equipped with fully automated operation, intelligent sensing, and permanent magnet traction, these trains provide passengers with a smarter, quieter, and more comfortable experience.
The network is more flexible and efficient. Jinan Metro Lines 4 and 8 run on a Y-shaped route, with trains traveling together along a main trunk line before branching off to different sections, allowing higher train frequency on busy segments. Trains also depart from multiple stations across the network, reducing wait times and improving passenger flow.
In addition, stations are showcasing Jinan's culture through its mountains, springs, and technological innovation, offering passengers an immersive experience.
