Weifang strengthens cultural tourism ties with South Korea

The city of Weifang in Shandong province took a major step to strengthen its ties with South Korea's tourism sector by hosting a high-profile promotional event in Seoul, South Korea, on Nov 24. The event drew over 100 attendees, including key representatives from local governments, tourism boards, travel agencies, airlines, cultural organizations, and the media, all united in fostering a deeper exchange between the two regions.

Weifang's tourism officials highlighted the city's unique blend of rich cultural heritage and modern appeal, underscoring its reputation as the "Kite Capital of the World". The city's historic landmarks, stunning landscapes, vibrant cultural scene, and robust economy were presented to emphasize its status as a dynamic destination for both cultural exploration and contemporary experiences.

As part of the promotion, Weifang introduced exclusive offers for South Korean tourists, including special discounts at local hotels and attractions, and announced five distinct tourism routes that cater to a wide range of interests, from cultural heritage tours to culinary experiences.

The event's highlight was a unique cross-border musical performance featuring masters of the Chinese guqin (seven-stringed zither) as well as the South Korean gayageum (traditional Korean string instrument). The collaboration between the two artists fused the sounds of their respective cultures in a mesmerizing display, captivating the audience and highlighting the spirit of cultural exchange.

The event also featured an interactive cultural exhibition, offering live demonstrations of Weifang's traditional crafts, including kite-making and woodblock printing. Attendees were able to engage with the city's artistic heritage firsthand and gained a deeper appreciation for Weifang's time-honored craftsmanship.

To formalize the collaboration, a series of agreements were signed between enterprises from both sides, marking a new chapter in cultural and tourism cooperation. These agreements are expected to drive greater exchange and attract more South Korean visitors to Weifang in the future.
