Wen Junyue, a high school student in Juxian county of Rizhao city, East China's Shandong province, is winning praise for her fluent English and deep knowledge of traditional Chinese culture, after serving as a guide and interpreter for visiting international guests, including a Polish wind orchestra.
"She is capable, knowledgeable, and eager to share everything about this city," said the orchestra's conductor. "I hope to visit Juxian again."
Influenced by her grandfather, a calligrapher and collector, Wen, a sophomore at Shandong Province Juxian County No 1 High School, has developed a strong interest in Chinese heritage from an early age. Her passion for English also began in childhood — she often initiated conversations with foreigners while traveling with her parents, gradually building confidence and fluency.
In 2024, Juxian hosted several international basketball tournaments and recruited volunteer interpreters. Then a freshman, Wen was the youngest interpreter selected for her outstanding oral English and communication skills.
She has since worked with visitors from the United States, Germany, Greece, Poland, and Thailand — not only translating information but also engaging them in meaningful cultural exchanges.
During the orchestra's visit, Wen guided members through the Juxian ancient town as well as a local distillery, introducing the traditional brewing process and cultural relics such as the ceramic ox horn, an early Chinese wind instrument. She also helped lead a paper-cutting workshop and explained the stories behind traditional Chinese door decorations.
At a calligraphy session, she invited her grandfather to write a dedication for the orchestra and encouraged the conductor to add the band's name using a brush.
