Print PrintA delegation from Yantai recently visited Barbados, Grenada, and Saint Lucia, advancing international zero-carbon island cooperation with the Caribbean island nations.
In November 2024, during the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, Yantai introduced the "International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative". The proposal to establish an international organization for zero-carbon island cooperation received support from the Caribbean island nations that have been severely affected by climate disasters in recent years.
Two months later, Yantai and St. George's, Grenada, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote zero-carbon island cooperation, reaching consensus on collaboration in areas such as new power systems, water resource management, and low-carbon tourism.
During the visit, delegation members specifically inspected the implementation progress of projects like photovoltaic energy storage that both sides are working on.
Positive news also emerged from the trip to Barbados — both the Barbados Ashley Lashley Foundation and the Cave Hill Campus of University of the West Indies submitted confirmation letters to join the "International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Organization".
While supporting local development, zero-carbon cooperation has opened up broad markets and greater opportunities for Yantai enterprises. The Caribbean region is eager to strengthen exchanges with China in areas such as food security, fisheries, road construction, and solar energy.
A climate expert from Grenada expressed admiration for Yantai's leadership in green technology and the development of the low-carbon industry and said he was looking forward to practical cooperation to accelerate Grenada's green transformation through experience sharing, technology exchange, and policy coordination.
