In Qingdao, seagulls gather along the coast each winter, with the iconic Zhanqiao Pier becoming a favorite spot for photographers. Every year in mid-to-late October, the first flocks of seagulls arrive along the coast, mainly black-headed gulls, along with slaty-backed and herring gulls. The city's seagull season runs from November to March.
