"Confucian thought encourages us to adapt to new challenges and to value harmony more," said Moroccan sinologist Khalid Hammes.

Hammes, head of the Research Group at Mohammed V University of Rabat, shared his views on Confucian thought during the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations on Sept 28.

He said no civilization is superior to another and that dialogue among civilizations is needed to address common challenges. He also noted that the forum provides an opportunity for researchers to exchange ideas, discuss values and explore the contemporary relevance of Confucianism.

The forum, held in Qufu, Shandong province, the hometown of Confucius, on Sept 28-29, was centered on the theme of "Civilization, Order and Justice". It brought together distinguished experts and scholars from all over the world to discuss dialogue among civilizations, coexistence and cooperation.
