The inaugural CMG World Robot Mount Tai (Taishan) Competition will take place in Tai'an, Shandong province, on Oct 29.

According to a recent news conference, this professional robotics event is designed around challenging mountainous terrain. It features two main tracks, four official events and a special challenge event.

The racing track tests robots' ability to navigate continuously through arduous mountainous terrain. It is divided into two categories: humanoid robots and legged robots.

The humanoid robot race consists of two stages. The official stage covers about 2.6 kilometers and more than 1,800 steps. Teams that complete it can choose to take on an additional 600-meter high-difficulty stage with more than 1,000 steps. While the legged robot race covers about 3.2 km and more than 2,800 steps.

The special track features two categories: legged robots and exoskeleton robots. The legged robot load-carrying race simulates the work of mountain porters, testing robots' ability to transport supplies while carrying a load.

The All-terrain Mobility Challenge is a special showcase event open to various types of robots, including wheeled, tracked, wheel-track hybrid, spherical and other complex configurations. It will highlight their ability to navigate a wide range of terrains.

The competition also provides national-level certification opportunities. Robots that complete the official stages will receive professional quality inspection reports, while outstanding teams can apply for national robot certification. All winning robots will also be featured in a long-term display at the Taishan Mountain scenic area.

In recent years, Tai'an has built a strong foundation for robotics and embodied intelligence. It is one of China's 23 cities developing data labeling and leads Shandong in data element reform, with over 30 AI ecosystem enterprises. These developments have laid a solid foundation for hosting the competition.
