The hull of the P-84, an over 100,000-metric-ton floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit with an all-electric design, has been completed in Yantai, East China's Shandong province. Built by China International Marine Containers Group for Brazil's Petrobras, the vessel is the largest FPSO hull project ever undertaken by a Chinese shipyard.

The P-84 FPSO has a daily crude oil production capacity of 225,000 barrels and can process 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. Its all-electric architecture, paired with zero routine flaring, waste heat recovery, and deep-sea water cooling, is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions per barrel by about 30 percent, making it one of the most energy-efficient platforms in the world.

The project is one of Shandong's development highlights in high-end marine engineering. The province's Qingdao–Yantai–Weihai cluster has developed a complementary industry value chain, with Yantai specializing in offshore engineering assembly and support. One in every 10 ship orders in China now originates from Shandong, putting the province third nationwide.
