Print PrintWeichai Group, China's leading power equipment manufacturer, received the second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award on July 8 for its high-performance diesel engine technology. The company led a team of six institutions, including Tianjin University, Sino-platinum Metals, and Shandong University, on a decade-long research project to tackle long-standing technical challenges.
Diesel engines have long struggled to balance and improve reliability, thermal efficiency, and low emissions. Weichai's team succeeded in reconciling these demands, developing a new generation of high-performance diesel engines with full independent intellectual property rights. The new engines outperform global competitors across all key metrics and have achieved full self-reliance in core heavy-duty diesel technology.
Weichai has now won 10 national-level science awards, including one first prize and seven second prizes. The company has previously set world records in diesel engine thermal efficiency and won the first prize of the 2018 National Scientific and Technological Progress Award. These continued achievements underscore Weichai's role in advancing China's internal combustion engine industry.
