More than 200 Russian tourists gathered in Weihai, Shandong, from June 21 to 27 for a seven-day immersive experience. The group, the largest Russian inbound tour group to visit Shandong this year, explored cultural landmarks and participated in a study tour featuring coastal leisure, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) activities, and business visits.

Among the visitors were 113 young Russian students from Khabarovsk and Sergiyev Posad. Benefiting from the China-Russia visa-free policy and the China-Russia Years of Education, they chose Shandong as their first stop in China. The trip combined scenic coastal views, marine technology, and folk culture — offering the chance to both sightsee and learn about local culture and development.

The group visited landmarks like the Weihai Marine Science and Technology Museum. One Russian student said, "Weihai is beautiful, and I've learned so much about marine science." Another student was impressed by the local traditional culture, adding, "Paper-cutting is truly amazing."

Smooth entry services made for a seamless journey. The provincial border inspection authority opened dedicated channels for young study travelers, added Russian-language guidance, and offered expedited customs clearance. Hotels and scenic areas provided Russian signage and volunteer interpreters, while promoting foreign currency payment and tax refund services.

From January to May this year, Shandong received 822,000 inbound tourists, generating $560 million in tourism revenue — up 46.1 percent and 46.6 percent year-on-year respectively. The province’s culture and tourism department will continue strengthening policy support, enriching product offerings and improving inbound services to further boost the sector.
