The opening ceremony of the 2026 Hong Kong–Macao–Shandong Week took place in Hong Kong on May 19, underlining Shandong's commitment to high-level opening-up through the international platforms of Hong Kong and Macau.

The week, with the theme "Joining Hands for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–30)", features the Shandong-Hong Kong Synergistic Development Conference, cultural tourism promotions, and the "Remarkable Shandong" quality product exhibition, displaying 89 top-quality products from 56 businesses. A signing ceremony for established projects will also occur.

Shandong is utilizing Hong Kong's financial and international connections while providing its industrial capabilities. By the end of March 2026, 74 Shandong companies had listed in Hong Kong, beginning with Tsingtao Beer in 1993. Beyond products, Shandong shares cultural attractions — Confucian heritage, Taishan shadow puppetry, and creative museum souvenirs are gaining popularity in Hong Kong and Macao.

The province also announced measures to facilitate inbound travel, including easier visa and customs procedures. The week-long event aims to strengthen the growth of the three regions, where Shandong's industrial strength meets Hong Kong and Macao's openness and international connections, supporting shared development.

At the last opening ceremony of the Hong Kong–Macao–Shandong Week, Shandong signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, reaching consensus on six areas, including investment, finance, trade, technology, culture and tourism, and shipping logistics. A total of 27 key projects were signed on-site, covering the digital economy, green energy, healthcare, smart manufacturing, modern agriculture, and financial services, with total investment reaching $2.98 billion.
