At the opening ceremony of the 11th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations on July 9, Roger T. Ames, professor at the University of Hawaii and Peking University, deputy director of the Academic Committee of the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations and vice-president of International Confucian Association, delivered a keynote speech on global modernization.
Ames emphasized the importance of "relational equality" among cultures, where differences are acknowledged and respected.
"When cultures interact fairly and inclusively, their diverse ways of living and thinking can generate rich diversity," he said.
