The BYD Jinan base located in the Jinan Start-up Area for Growth Drivers Transformation in the northern part of Jinan, Shandong province, is funded by China's leading NEV manufacturer BYD Company.
The first phase of the BYD Jinan base, which focuses on the production of NEVs and spare parts, has received a total investment of 15 billion yuan ($2.05 billion). The project includes major manufacturing facilities for stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly, as well as for core components such as motors, electric drivetrains, air conditioning systems, and headlights.
The project was launched in 2022, with the first vehicle rolling off the production line just 11 months after land allocation. The base's annual production of new energy vehicles exceeded 360,000 units in 2024.
This rapid development has been supported by a strong business environment. Local authorities have focused on building a robust NEV industrial cluster, offering comprehensive support in areas such as policies, approvals, finance, taxation, land, and talent.
The BYD smart vehicle parts industrial base, with an investment of 5 billion yuan, is one of the supporting projects, and its main factory is expected to begin operating once construction is completed.
Additionally, BYD's semiconductor chip and battery production projects are expected to commence construction by the end of this year. These initiatives are contributing to the development of a complete NEV supply chain in the region.
