A new cultural venue showcasing Qingdao has opened in Richmond, Canada, providing a fresh platform for cultural exchanges and marking the 18th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between the two cities.

The Richmond–Qingdao Culture Lounge, inaugurated recently by the Canada Shandong Chinese Business Association, introduces visitors to Qingdao's history, culture, urban development, and scenic attractions through photographs, videos and cultural exhibits.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Han Changfu, president of the Canada Shandong Chinese Business Association, said the lounge will bring Qingdao closer to local communities by allowing Canadians to learn more about the city close to home. He added the venue will create more opportunities for exchanges between Richmond and Qingdao.

Following the ceremony, guests toured exhibitions featuring photographs of Qingdao, traditional handicrafts, and city publications, gaining a closer look at the city's cultural heritage and development.

The opening builds on a series of exchanges between the sister cities. During the "Sailing across the Ocean: A Date with Qingdao" cultural promotion event previously held in Richmond, Qingdao showcased local specialties and cultural and creative products, drawing strong interest from Canadian visitors.

The new venue is expected to serve as a platform for cultural, educational and business exchanges, helping deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between the two cities.
