In 2025, Chengyang district made strides in terms of shoring up its high-quality development, with its economy enjoying the benefits of an upward trajectory.

According to official data, the district's GDP exceeded 156.46 billion yuan ($23.03 billion), marking a year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent. Agricultural output totaled 3.9 billion yuan, up 4.4 percent, with grain production remaining steady at 5,983 metric tons.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Chengyang focused on building an innovative industrial system, introducing 129 upstream and downstream projects.

High-tech industries now account for 80.3 percent of the district's total, up 6.9 from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).

The Qingdao Innovation and Development Base of Harbin Engineering University is now fully operational, and the national innovation center for high-end intelligent household appliances in Chengyang has broken through 80 key core technologies.

The district now houses 10 national and provincial key laboratories, an increase of six, and has also grown its network of municipal-level and higher innovation platforms to 769, doubling the previous count.

In 2025, Chengyang recorded 2,110 high-tech enterprises, 2,541 small-and-medium-sized tech firms, and 47 specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative "little giant" enterprises — all ranking first in Qingdao by volume.

The district also attracted 10 major projects worth over 3 billion yuan ($441.41 million) each, including AstraZeneca and Luckin Coffee.

With continued improvements to people's livelihoods, Chengyang has made significant progress in building a humanistic, ecological, and happy home for its residents in recent years.
