Qingdao sees over 1m passenger trips during Dragon Boat Festival holiday

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2026-06-22

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Qingdao's total outbound passenger traffic exceeded 1.09 million, up 11.28 percent year-on-year. Railway transport led the surge with 819,000 passenger trips, an increase of 10.75 percent, while civil aviation handled 225,700 passengers, up 9.82 percent.

The holiday fell after the high school and college entrance exams, so rail travel was dominated by short-to-medium distance trips revolving around family reunions and leisure. Popular domestic destinations included Jinan, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhengzhou. To meet demand, Qingdao Railway Station added 10.5 pairs of temporary trains, including high-speed services to Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan, and Yantai.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport expanded its network with a new route connecting Qingdao, Mianyang, and Lhasa. Flights to Shanghai, Chengdu, and Ningbo were also increased, with new destinations including Baishan, Shangrao, Yuncheng, and Ulanhot. International routes to Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore remained popular.

Just before the holiday, Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport partnered with Meituan to launch an on-demand robot delivery service at departure gates. Travelers can order meals via the airport's mini-program or the Meituan app, which are delivered straight to their gate by smart robots.
