Museums bridge worlds: Qingdao celebrates International Museum Day
May 18 marks the International Museum Day, which is also the 80th anniversary of the International Council of Museums. Qingdao's museums with over 100 exhibitions, interactive activities, and volunteer services align with the theme, "Museums: Uniting a divided world".
From the marine civilization and Han-dynasty (206 BC–AD 24) treasures of the Qingdao West Coast New Area to Kang Youwei's former residence, see colored-glazed artifacts and exquisite thangka paintings. Additionally, explore floral art and exotic prints — each exhibit connects different eras and cultures. Visitors can also experience ICH crafts like cloisonné and porcelain painting, join study tours, attend cultural lectures, or enjoy shadow puppet shows.
Throughout the city, museums are acting as meeting points of history and the future, and local heritage and global cultures. Residents and tourists are invited to explore these treasures, touch living traditions, and embark on a timeless dialogue at the heart of Qingdao's museum community.
