Intl friends gather in Qingdao with Chinese New Year festivities
On Feb 10, the 2026 International Friends @Qingdao event kicked off at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, attracting nearly 300 participants from nine countries, of whom 130 were South Koreans.
The event offered a vibrant mix of cultural experiences and festive atmosphere. Visitors were greeted with displays of intangible cultural heritage upon arrival, which many found impressive. Designed to boost Qingdao's appeal as a tourist destination, the event promoted seamless “arrive-and-experience, land-and-shop” travel experiences.
With the visa-free policy for South Korean travelers, "Friday night to Qingdao" has become a popular short-haul getaway for young people in South Korea. Qingdao now has 38 daily round-trip flights to major South Korean cities, including Seoul, Busan, and Jeju. To complement this, Qingdao's culture and tourism bureau has released Korean-language travel guides and brochures through the China National Tourist Office in Seoul, expanding the city's influence in South Korea..
Through such initiatives, Qingdao continues to enhance cultural exchange and boost tourism spending during the festive season.
