Qingdao FTZ to establish first independent foreign-funded hospital
The Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ) has formed a strategic partnership with the Sino-German Eco-Park and Care Alliance, a Shanghai-based healthcare group, to create a high-standard international medical and wellness platform.
A key outcome of the partnership will be the establishment of the first foreign-funded hospital in Qingdao FTZ with independent legal status. Designed and operated to tertiary-level standards, the facility will bridge the gap between biopharmaceutical research and clinical application, providing comprehensive, life-cycle health management for multinational corporations, expatriates, and high-net-worth individuals.
This agreement supports the region's rapidly growing life sciences and healthcare cluster. In recent years, the Qingdao FTZ and the Sino-German Eco-Park have advanced in gene technology and the production of high-end medical equipment. Coordinated efforts in basic research, applied research, and industrial transformation have fueled progress in marine biomedicine, gene sequencing, molecular breeding, and precision medicine.
So far, the zone has attracted 69 enterprises in the sector, with total investment exceeding 12 billion yuan and a talent pool of more than 3,700 professionals.
This new partnership is expected to accelerate the commercialization of medical research and provide the momentum needed to make Qingdao a leading international health and wellness destination.
