Winter camp opens in Qingdao for Malaysian youth to trace roots
A root-seeking winter camp for young Malaysians opened in Qingdao on Dec 29. Organized by the city's culture and tourism bureau, the camp prioritizes marine-themed study tours and focuses on expanding inbound international programs.
In recent years, the city's culture and tourism bureau has systematically integrated resources, built service systems, and developed markets, creating a diverse product system covering ocean exploration, cultural heritage, and tech experiences by connecting marine research institutes, museums, non-heritage workshops, and innovation enterprises.
During the eight-day camp, participants will visit iconic sites like the Hisense Exploration Center, the PLA Naval Museum, and the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, engaging in courses on technology, military history, and marine sports, allowing them to appreciate Qingdao's maritime charm and cultural depth.
The camp, focusing on Chinese language, culture, and experiences, is the first of its kind for the Southeast Asian market and supports people-to-people bonds under the Belt and Road Initiative. Measures like improving multilingual signage and streamlining services enhance the convenience and experience for international study groups.
The culture and tourism bureau of Qingdao also promotes collaboration between local universities and overseas institutions, fostering a "university + tourism + overseas partner" model. Qingdao Hengxing University, having previously hosted groups like the Chinese Bridge Malaysian educators delegation, exemplifies this synergy. The camp will also feature a special New Year Gala for Chinese and foreign teachers and students.
