Qingdao old town cultural tourism area earns national 4A rating
The Qingdao old city cultural tourism area has been rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction by the Shandong provincial department of culture and tourism. This recognition highlights the successful preservation and renewal of Qingdao's historic urban area and signifies a new level of cultural appeal and tourism quality.
The renovation of Qingdao's old downtown has always been centered on "people". Comprehensive improvements in the Zhongshan Road area involve upgrades to 55 roads, 12 new parking lots with 2,106 spaces, and the creation of 7 pocket parks and plazas. These changes have greatly improved the living environment.
Infrastructure and public service upgrades have breathed new life into the old downtown. Since the renovations began, 12 new cultural venues and 9 distinctive commercial streets have been added, increasing public service coverage from 65 percent to 90 percent. These improvements have raised residents' quality of life and created about 15,000 jobs. New businesses in historic buildings now offer one-stop shopping, dining, tourism, and entertainment. To date, 330 new commercial formats have been introduced in the core zone, adding 365,100 square meters of commercial space.
