Qingdao airport launches new cargo route to Southeast Asia

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2025-10-31

A Shandong Airlines cargo flight took off from Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport on Oct 30, marking the launch of the carrier's first dedicated freight service linking Qingdao with Southeast Asia, which is expected to boost regional trade and economic integration.

Starting with the "Qingdao to Bangkok" leg, this new route will connect Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. It aims to better serve local enterprises, boost trade with Southeast Asia, and accelerate regional economic development.

Offering two weekly flights, the outbound service primarily transports manufactured goods from Shandong, helping "Shandong Manufacturing" spread to overseas markets and better integrate into global supply chains. Inbound flights carry signature Southeast Asian perishables like durians and seafood, ensuring freshness from origin to market and enhancing the variety and quality of imported produce.

This route strengthens the air cargo link between the Shandong Peninsula and Southeast Asia. It supports key local companies, attracts more Southeast Asian perishables to Qingdao, and expands the city's international cargo network, improving connectivity with the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member states. With streamlined customs procedures, including priority clearance for fresh goods, Qingdao airport ensures fast and efficient entry for these products.

Moving forward, Qingdao airport plans to develop more efficient air logistics channels between Qingdao, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia. It will further expand its international cargo network to RCEP, Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, and Western destinations, seizing opportunities in the air freight market to build an international transit hub in Northern China.
