Shandong's Qingdao Port elevates its global shipping stature
The 2025 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index was recently released, with Qingdao rising from 15th to 13th place globally, surpassing Tokyo and Busan for the first time.
This advancement underscores Qingdao Port's role as a driving force in building an international shipping center and reflects the city's strategic efforts to integrate port and urban development.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Transport, Qingdao Port witnessed a 2.1 percent year-on-year growth in cargo throughput and a 7.8 percent increase in container volume in the first half of this year.
Qingdao Port has significantly increased its participation in global shipping regulations and price index publications, playing a more crucial role in the global maritime landscape.
Su Jianguang, Party secretary of the Qingdao Port in Shandong, emphasized the importance of developing an international shipping center, stressing the port's unwavering commitment to supporting Qingdao's overall development. He highlighted the city government's staunch support and encouragement, underscoring Qingdao Port's dedication to contributing greater maritime strength to local economic and social development.
With over 230 container shipping routes connecting to more than 700 ports in over 180 countries and regions worldwide, Qingdao Port's competitiveness as an international shipping hub continues to excel, supporting Qingdao's ranking as a top maritime container port for the fourth year straight in the "Top 10 Maritime Container Port Business Environment Evaluation".
