Qingdao Port strengthens global connectivity with record route expansion
As a rising global shipping hub, Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group is accelerating its role in connecting China with the world. At Qingdao Port, vessels like the "Kanghuan" are loading nearly 20,000 cubic meters of vehicles and equipment bound for Southeast Africa, while the FM1 Middle East route – launched by global shipping giants – has officially set sail. In the first half of 2025, the port added 11 new container routes, four general cargo routes, and five sea-rail intermodal lines, setting a new record and reinforcing its strategic position.
Qingdao Port now operates over 230 container routes, reaching more than 700 ports in over 180 countries. New direct routes to Southeast Africa and South America have expanded its global impact, with cargo volume on the Africa express service increasing 30-fold year-on-year. As the most connected northern Chinese port to Africa, Qingdao is boosting its sea-rail network and export capacity.
For 10 consecutive years, the port has led China in sea-rail transport volume. With new logistics corridors, faster delivery times, and reduced export costs, Qingdao is connecting inland areas to global markets. Backed by over 77 billion yuan (about $10.7 billion) in new infrastructure projects – including a second ore berth and a 450,000-metric-ton LNG terminal – Qingdao Port is charting a bold course toward becoming a world-class maritime gateway.
