The SAIC-GM-Wuling's Qingdao branch commemorated its 20th anniversary and the production of its 8.5 millionth vehicle with a ceremony held in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, also known as Qingdao FTZ, on June 3.
Over the past two decades, the Qingdao branch has established a strong presence in the city, continuously enriching and iterating its product lineup. Witnessing the evolution of the automotive industry, the branch has transitioned from commercial to passenger vehicles and from traditional fuel-powered cars to new energy ones.
The journey began in 2005 with the production of the first Wuling Xingwang, marking the start of the enterprise's strategic integration between northern and southern regions.
In 2008, the Wuling Rongguang was launched, heralding the era of large and micro commercial vehicles. By 2020, the production of the Wuling Hongguang MINI EV began, pioneering a new path in the segment of personal mobility vehicles. In 2025, the Hongguang MINI EV four-door version and Wuling Zhiguang EV entered production, further enriching and refining the new energy product lineup and accelerating the branch's transition towards electrification and intelligence.
The cumulative sales of the Hongguang MINI EV family has surpassed 1.5 million units, including 640,000 units produced by the SAIC-GM-Wuling's Qingdao branch.
In the future, the Qingdao branch will continue to accelerate its electric and intelligent transformation, delivering high-quality, smart new energy vehicles to consumers and contributing to the advancement of the Chinese automotive industry.
