Two companies based in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, or Qingdao FTZ, have been included to the GEI China Unicorn 2025 list released by Greatwall Strategy Consultants, bringing the city's total to 10 unicorns.
The COSMOPlat Institute of Industrial Intelligence (Qingdao) Co Ltd provides end-to-end smart-manufacturing solutions for the COSMOPlat platform, serving home appliances, consumer goods, and broader manufacturing. The firm has authored 36 national and five international standards, while also overseeing upgrades on several "lighthouse" smart factories.

Qingdao KingAgroot CropScience, a new entree, is an agro-biotech company that integrates R&D, production, and sales to raise global agricultural efficiency and quality through novel pesticides and biotech breeding, advancing food security goals.

Unicorns are defined as start-ups valued above $1 billion that demonstrate rapid growth, scarcity, and strong investor appeal, often pioneering disruptive innovations and boosting regional productivity.
A spokesperson for the Qingdao FTZ said it has created a full-cycle service system to support high-growth companies, citing COSMOPlat and KingAgroot as evidence that the zone's ecosystem is attracting and retaining breakthrough enterprises.
