A special slow train, Y521/0, departed from Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, on Nov 23, carrying over 300 elderly passengers on a unique "slow travel" experience to the countryside. Designed for travelers in their golden years, the journey blended cultural activities, health services, and rural exploration.

This initiative not only provides seniors with a nostalgic and enriching travel experience but also strengthens ties between urban retirees and rural communities, supporting local economies, promoting rural vitalization, and increasing seniors' well-being.

Onboard, passengers enjoyed impromptu choir performances and health lectures. An artificial intelligence health zone offered advanced check-ups, including dental consultations and AI-based eye screenings. Local agricultural products from central Shandong added a rustic touch.

Upon arrival at Zibo's Yuanqian Station, passengers were treated to a cultural show of traditional drum dances and the local Lyu Opera. They then explored a lively rural market, buying fresh sweet potatoes and handmade baskets while chatting with villagers.

On the return trip, the carriage became a cozy lounge where seniors knitted, played chess, and shared stories, surrounded by passing pastoral views. "This slow train brings back the relaxed feeling of my youth," said one traveler.
