The first soft-sleeper tourist train in Shandong province was launched in Jinan, the provincial capital on March 24.

Officials from the culture and tourism departments of Shandong province, Jinan city and Yantai city, as well as representatives of related tourism enterprises and agencies took part in the ceremony.

The new Jinan-Penglai tourist train will begin operating every weekend starting on April 2. Extra trips will be added to cater to the increase in passenger volume during festivals and holidays.

A series of themed tourism products, such as study tours, wedding tours, birthday tours and anniversary tours, will be launched based on the tourist train.

Optional travel packages, monthly and seasonal tickets, exclusive channel access to the railway station and other special services will also be introduced to provide passengers with a diversified and high-quality travel experience.

More preferential policies will also be released, according to the train service provider.

The train will greatly improve the cultural and tourism exchanges between Jinan and Penglai and facilitate tourism recovery of the two places, said Shandong officials.

Penglai district in Yantai is a famous coastal tourism getaway in China with a long history, profound culture, excellent ecology and abundant resources.

The district currently has one national tourist resort, two 5A scenic spots, three 4A scenic spots and five protected national cultural relics.
