Shandong province has an advanced transportation and logistics industry, and a relatively complete transportation system which includes highways, marine and  inland river shipping, rail transit, air transportation and others methods. The highway network in Shandong is extensive. By the end of 2017, the total length of highways was 270,600 kilometers, of which the expressways accounted for 5,820 kilometers. The system covered 98.5 percent of the counties (city and district) in Shandong. Shandong is the only province with three big coastal ports (Qingdao, sunshine, Yantai) capable of handling more than 400 million tons. The total number of berths is 581, and total capacity reaches 788 million tons. The ports are responsible for more than 90 percent of Shandong's foreign trade import and export volume, about 25 percent of the country’s iron ore and crude oil, and all coal imported and unloaded in Shandong. The total traffic mileage of the railway in Shandong is 5,700 kilometers, and the operating mileage of the high-speed railway reaches 1,240 kilometers. After including the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and the Qingrong intercity railway, and construction of stations such as Jinan West Station and Qingdao North Station, a comprehensive passenger transport hub with seven high-speed railways has taken shape. There are nine civil airports in Shandong, which have opened more than 300 domestic and foreign routes.
