Feicheng's Guochao boom: Where ancient peach culture meets modern cool

In Feicheng, a county-level city under Tai'an, Shandong, a wave of guochao (China-chic) cultural products is capturing hearts with its playful blend of tradition and contemporary style. The city's signature peach culture is being reimagined into everyday items that resonate with young people.

At a cozy coffee shop tucked away in a local courtyard, baristas craft latte art featuring the Chinese characters for "Feicheng" alongside peach motifs and auspicious symbols like "double happiness", turning each cup into a sip of local culture. The coffee shop also offers creative souvenirs, including fridge magnets shaped like peach blossom petals that capture the region's springtime charm.

The city's creativity extends to its civic center, where a cultural market showcases map-inspired designs, mini replicas of the ancient Chen Hou Bronze Pot, and adorable peach-themed IP characters — making culture both portable and playful.

Local intangible cultural heritage workshops are also joining the trend. Nie's Copper Art Studio has launched horse-shaped works for the Year of the Horse, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Delicate copper mirrors and abacuses featuring peach blossoms have also become popular among younger audiences.

From coffee art to traditional crafts, Feicheng's guochao movement is proving that tradition thrives when it dares to be fresh, fun, and irresistibly local.
