Wang Yuelun
Wang Yuelun (1903-1981) was a famous geologist born in Tai'an County (now Daiyue District, Tai'an). In 1921, Wang was admitted to the Mining Department of the Engineering College of Shanxi University. In 1926, he discovered an iron mine in Mafangjing, Shanxi. From the 1930s to the early 1940s, he studied Cambrian and Silurian geology in southwest China, and established the stratified standard section of the lower Paleoash series based on a geological survey in southern Guizhou, which is still widely used in geological circles. In 1959, he proposed that the Northern and Southern Sinian formations were the products of different time periods.
