In 2025, Jining's GDP reached 612.8 billion yuan ($88.34 billion), marking a 5.8 percent year-on-year increase. The primary industry contributed 64.9 billion yuan, showing a 3.9 percent rise from the previous year. The secondary industry accounted for 221.9 billion yuan, with a 5.1 percent growth, and the tertiary industry brought in 326 billion yuan, up by 6.7 percent.
Economy
Jining in East China's Shandong province saw the added value of its industries above designated size increase by 7.9 percent year-on-year in 2025.
Its fixed asset investment increased by 0.3 percent, driven mostly by large projects.
Meanwhile, the city’s service industry saw an improvement in quality. In 2025, enterprises above designated size in the industry achieved a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent from January to November.
Market demand continued to improve. In 2025, retail sales of consumer goods reached 323.36 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent. The trade-in policy was effective in boosting consumption, with a 50.7-percent increase in new energy vehicle sales and over 20-percent growth in household appliance sales for four months in a row.
Activity in the financial market remained steady. As of the end of December in 2025, domestic and foreign currency deposits of financial institutions totaled 1097 billion yuan, an increase of 114.9 billion yuan from the beginning of 2025. The balance of domestic and foreign currency loans of financial institutions was 910.1 billion yuan, an increase of 10.6 percent from the beginning of the year.
Resource
Jining is an important resource city with 44 coal mines, accounting for more than a half of Shandong's total and an annual coal output of 75 million metric tons.
Jining ranks second nationally in terms of rare earth reserves. Jining is now aiming to have a total installed and under-construction capacity of renewable energy generation, reaching approximately 8 million kilowatts. This would account for around 37 percent of the city's total power generation capacity. Additionally, the new energy generation is projected to reach 8 billion kilowatt-hours.
Nansi Lake is the largest freshwater lake in North China covering 1,266 square kilometer.
Jining is also an important national agricultural base for oil, grain, cotton and characteristic agricultural products.
